Small city on FM 78
Marion is a small city in Guadalupe County, west of Seguin and east of Cibolo along FM 78. Santa Clara and New Berlin sit just south of town. Quiet streets, larger lots, and mature trees are the norm — which means valley and gutter debris after every spring storm, and wind that lifts tabs you cannot see from the driveway.
Most roofs here are architectural asphalt shingles on one- and two-story homes. Outbuildings and shops on the same acreage often wear metal panel. We drive FM 78 for free on-roof inspections, repairs, and full replacements.
Rattler Roofing is family-owned and based in San Antonio. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s University. About 70% of our work is roofing; about 30% is remodeling. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Trees, valleys, and spring hail
Hail and wind track across northern Guadalupe County the same way they hit Cibolo and Schertz. Shade and leaf pack hide lifted tabs and bruised mats until you walk the roof. We climb on, photograph the damage, and tell you straight whether you need a targeted roof repair or a full replacement.
Architectural shingles from brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Malarkey are what most homes here wear and what we replace most often, including Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated options. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.
Tile is less common but shows up on custom homes: Tile Roofing. Hot attics under dark roofs: Roof Ventilation.
Repair, replacement, insurance
Targeted roof repair often fixes a few wind-torn tabs, a failed pipe boot, or a localized leak. When the field is brittle or hail-bruised across slopes, we recommend replacement, tear off to the deck, replace soft wood we document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty.
After a storm, stay off the roof. We document damage and can meet your adjuster. You file the claim; Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive or rebate your deductible. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.
Permits in Marion / Guadalupe County
Roof work inside Marion city limits runs through the City of Marion’s building process; parcels just outside may fall under Guadalupe County rules instead. We confirm which authority covers your exact address before materials are ordered. Texas does not issue a statewide roofing license — city registration and local permits are the credentials that matter here. We register as required and pull permits on scopes that need them. HOA or POA architectural approval is a separate step in some subdivisions.
How a job usually runs
Every job starts with a free on-roof inspection. We get up on the roof, photograph problem areas, and go over the photos with you before anyone orders materials. You get a written estimate. If a repair will protect the house, we say so. If the roof is past that point, we show you why. On tear-offs we remove the old roofing down to the deck, replace soft wood we find and document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Debris is hauled away. Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities where permits are required, and insured. Hours are 7 AM to 7 PM, every day — call or text.
Working around trees and access
Many Marion lots have mature trees close to the eaves. We protect landscaping where we can, use magnets for nail pickup, and plan dumpster or trailer placement so we do not block a narrow street all day. If a limb is rubbing a ridge or valley, we flag it in the inspection photos so you can decide whether to trim before or after the roof work. Quiet streets are an advantage — we still treat your neighbors’ driveways and mailboxes with care while the job is open.

What we look for on a Marion roof
On a typical Marion inspection we check every slope, ridge, hip, valley, pipe boot, wall flashing, and chimney counterflashing. Soft decking underfoot gets marked and photographed. Granule loss, bruise marks that show as dark spots when shingles are flexed, and creased tabs along the windward edge all go into the report. On metal we look for fastener back-out, open seams, dent patterns from hail, and failed sealant at transitions. You get the photos with the written estimate so you can see what we saw — not a generic pitch. If a small repair will keep water out for years, we say so. If the roof is at the end of its life in Guadalupe County’s hail climate, we show you why a full tear-off is the better spend.
