Northeast Bexar, growing fast
Converse is a city in northeast Bexar County, east of Loop 1604 near FM 78 and the Randolph area. It has grown quickly — newer subdivisions mixed among older streets — so the roof stock ranges from builder-grade architectural shingles a few years old to older layers that have already seen more than one hail season.
Wind that peels shingle tabs along the ridge is a common call here after a spring storm. From the ground it can look minor. On the roof you see creased tabs, exposed nails, and felt showing in streaks. We chalk and photograph the damage, then complete the repair or a full replacement based on what the photos show.
Rattler Roofing is family-owned and based in San Antonio. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s University. About 70% of our work is roofing; about 30% is remodeling. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Shingles first — metal when it fits
Architectural shingles from brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Malarkey are what most Converse homes wear and what we replace most often, including Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated options. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.
Metal standing seam and R-panel are available when you want them. See Metal Roofing. Tile: Tile Roofing. Hot attics: Roof Ventilation.
Repair, storms, insurance
Ridge-line wind damage and missing tabs are often a repair if the rest of the field is sound. When bruising or wear is house-wide, we recommend tear-off to the deck, replace soft wood we document, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys.
After hail or wind, stay off the roof. We document damage and can meet your adjuster. You file the claim; Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive or rebate your deductible. An approved insurance claim does not skip the city permit. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.
Permits in Converse
The City of Converse publishes a re-roof permit among its residential applications and registers contractors before they pull permits. Applications can go through the city’s public portal (SmartGov) or the Building Department. Texas does not issue a statewide roofing license — city registration and permitting are the local credentials that matter here. We register as required and pull the re-roof permit on jobs that need it.
How a job usually runs
Free on-roof inspection with photos, written estimate, then scheduled work. Most shingle reroofs finish in a day. Debris is hauled away. You walk the finished roof with us. Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities as required, insured. Hours 7 AM–7 PM.
Newer subdivisions and older streets on the same map
Converse’s growth means two roof conversations on the same afternoon: a ten-year-old builder shingle roof with wind creasing along the ridge, and an older street where flashings and decking need a closer look. We do not force every house into a full replacement. The photos decide.
Randolph-area storms and open northeast Bexar fetch can push wind harder across some subdivisions than a sheltered inner-loop street. That is why ridge and hip tabs get special attention on our Converse inspections — and why we photograph them before anyone argues about scope with an adjuster.
If you are comparing bids, ask who pulls the Converse re-roof permit and who meets the inspector. A low number that skips permitting is not a bargain when the city doubles fees for work started without a required permit — or when a future buyer asks for proof the roof was done under permit.
