Start With a Free Roof Inspection

We check your roof and show you what we find. See what the inspection covers. If hail or wind damaged your roof, our insurance claims page explains how we help.

Hill Country edge, tree cover

Grey Forest is a small city in northwest Bexar County in the Hill Country edge near Helotes, with heavy oak cover, steep lots, and quieter streets than the Loop 1604 subdivisions. Homes are often stone or stucco with steep roofs that stay shaded most of the day.

Shade hides wind lift. Leaves pack valleys. Limbs scrape shingles and metal edges. We climb on after storms and show you what the ground view missed.

Rattler Roofing is family-owned and based in San Antonio. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s University. About 70% of our work is roofing; about 30% is remodeling. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.

Shade, limbs, and Hill Country hail

Hail and wind track across the northwest metro and Helotes corridor every spring. Metal is a natural fit on many Grey Forest homes; architectural shingles are still common. We photograph lifted tabs, bruised mats, dented metal, and failed flashings, then recommend repair or full replacement.

Architectural shingles from brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Malarkey are what most homes here wear and what we replace most often, including Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated options. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.

Double-lock standing seam formed on site from McElroy Metal coil with hidden clips, plus R-panel on outbuildings when that is the better fit. Metal still dents in heavy hail — we explain that before you order. See Metal Roofing. Tile on some custom homes: Tile Roofing.

Repair, replacement, insurance

Targeted roof repair often fixes a few wind-torn tabs, a failed pipe boot, or a localized leak. When the field is brittle or hail-bruised across slopes, we recommend replacement, tear off to the deck, replace soft wood we document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty.

After a storm, stay off the roof. We document damage and can meet your adjuster. You file the claim; Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive or rebate your deductible. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.

Permits in Grey Forest

The City of Grey Forest manages building permits inside city limits. Steep lots and tree cover can also mean extra care for debris control and access — we plan that into the job. We register and permit as required. No Texas statewide roofing license claim; city licensing is what we follow.

How a job usually runs

Every job starts with a free on-roof inspection. We get up on the roof, photograph problem areas, and go over the photos with you before anyone orders materials. You get a written estimate. If a repair will protect the house, we say so. If the roof is past that point, we show you why. On tear-offs we remove the old roofing down to the deck, replace soft wood we find and document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Debris is hauled away. Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities where permits are required, and insured. Hours are 7 AM to 7 PM, every day — call or text.

Steep roofs and debris control

Grey Forest’s steep, shaded roofs need careful footing and more valley cleaning than a flat suburban tract. We budget time for leaf and twig removal from valleys before we judge whether a leak is flashing or debris. After the job we magnet the yard and walk the perimeter with you. If a neighboring oak drops limbs onto a new ridge, we document it so you know what is storm damage versus install quality.

What we look for on a Grey Forest roof

On a typical Grey Forest inspection we check every slope, ridge, hip, valley, pipe boot, wall flashing, and chimney counterflashing. Soft decking underfoot gets marked and photographed. Granule loss, bruise marks that show as dark spots when shingles are flexed, and creased tabs along the windward edge all go into the report. On metal we look for fastener back-out, open seams, dent patterns from hail, and failed sealant at transitions. You get the photos with the written estimate so you can see what we saw — not a generic pitch. If a small repair will keep water out for years, we say so. If the roof is at the end of its life in Bexar County’s hail climate, we show you why a full tear-off is the better spend.
