Northeast Bexar enclave

Windcrest is a city enclaved inside northeast San Antonio in Bexar County, near Loop 410 and I-35. Most of the housing stock is mid-century and later single-family homes on quiet streets with architectural shingles. Commercial and low-slope sections appear along the busier edges.

Being tucked inside the metro means short response times and the same hail and wind that hit Kirby and Live Oak. We already maintain Recent Work photos on this page from Windcrest-area installs — we still inspect every roof fresh, with new photos for your house.

Rattler Roofing is family-owned and based in San Antonio. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s University. About 70% of our work is roofing; about 30% is remodeling. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.

Same storms as the northeast metro

Hail bruises shingle mats; wind lifts tabs and ridge caps. Aging flashings at chimneys and walls start leaks that look like “mystery stains” inside. We walk the roof, photograph soft decking and failed boots, and recommend repair or full replacement.

Architectural shingles from brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Malarkey are what most homes here wear and what we replace most often, including Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated options. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.

Repair, replacement, insurance

Targeted roof repair often fixes a few wind-torn tabs, a failed pipe boot, or a localized leak. When the field is brittle or hail-bruised across slopes, we recommend replacement, tear off to the deck, replace soft wood we document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty.

After a storm, stay off the roof. We document damage and can meet your adjuster. You file the claim; Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive or rebate your deductible. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.

Permits in Windcrest

The City of Windcrest issues building permits and expects contractors to register. We pull re-roof permits on scopes that need them and carry required insurance. Local city licensing — not a statewide Texas roofing license — is the path we follow.

How a job usually runs

Every job starts with a free on-roof inspection. We get up on the roof, photograph problem areas, and go over the photos with you before anyone orders materials. You get a written estimate. If a repair will protect the house, we say so. If the roof is past that point, we show you why. On tear-offs we remove the old roofing down to the deck, replace soft wood we find and document with photos, and install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys. Debris is hauled away. Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities where permits are required, and insured. Hours are 7 AM to 7 PM, every day — call or text.

Mid-century details

Windcrest’s mid-century stock means chimneys, wall flashings, and older pipe boots that outlast the shingle field. We treat flashing details as part of the roof system, not an afterthought. On replacements we renew boots and step flashing as needed and photograph the finished transitions so you have a record of what was changed.

Paying for the work

Financing through outside lenders (credit approval required), or cash / check / card. See Financing.

What we look for on a Windcrest roof

On a typical Windcrest inspection we check every slope, ridge, hip, valley, pipe boot, wall flashing, and chimney counterflashing. Soft decking underfoot gets marked and photographed. Granule loss, bruise marks that show as dark spots when shingles are flexed, and creased tabs along the windward edge all go into the report. On metal we look for fastener back-out, open seams, dent patterns from hail, and failed sealant at transitions. You get the photos with the written estimate so you can see what we saw — not a generic pitch. If a small repair will keep water out for years, we say so. If the roof is at the end of its life in Bexar County’s hail climate, we show you why a full tear-off is the better spend.
