A tiny city of large lots
Hill Country Village is one of the smallest cities in Bexar County — under a thousand residents — tucked just west of US 281 and south of Hollywood Park. Almost the whole city is residential. Streets stay quiet. Lots are large by San Antonio standards, with mature trees hanging over long roof runs. There is no strip-mall skyline here; the “village” feel is the point.
That setting shapes the roof work. Steeper custom slopes, long valleys, and heavy leaf litter show up on most inspections. Wind-thrown limbs after a spring storm are a regular call. Clogged valleys send water sideways under shingles or behind wall flashing long before a ceiling stain appears.
Rattler Roofing is a San Antonio–based, family-owned crew. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s. We do mostly roofing (about 70%) plus residential remodeling (about 30%). We inspect, repair, and replace roofs in Hill Country Village. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.
What we see on these roofs
Architectural shingles are common. So is standing seam metal on brick and stone homes that want a cleaner Hill Country line. We install double-lock standing seam formed on site from McElroy Metal coil with hidden clips, plus R-panel when it fits. See Metal Roofing.
Tile appears on some custom homes; repairs need careful underlayment work. See Tile Roofing.
Tree cover is the local specialty problem. Shade slows drying after rain. Debris packs behind chimneys and in valleys. We clear what we can safely reach during an inspection and show you photos of soft spots, lifted tabs, and bruised shingles from hail. For attic heat under dark roofs, see Roof Ventilation.
Repair, replacement, storms
A repair often beats a full tear-off when damage is local — a few wind-lifted shingles, a failed pipe boot, or valley flashing that opened up. See Roof Repair. When the roof is past saving, we tear off to the deck, replace soft wood we document, install synthetic underlayment with ice-and-water shield in valleys, and put on the new roof with our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.
After hail or wind, stay off the roof. We document damage with photos and can meet your insurance adjuster. You file the claim; Texas law does not allow a contractor to waive or rebate your deductible. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.
Permits in Hill Country Village
Hill Country Village runs its own building department. Contractor registration, residential permit applications, plan review, and inspections go through the city’s MyGovernmentOnline portal. The city code requires a building permit before erecting, constructing, or structurally altering a building or structure. Starting work without a required permit can double the fee. Plan review commonly takes about 10–14 business days. We confirm what your roof scope needs and handle the contractor side of the paperwork.
Some properties also sit over Edwards Aquifer–sensitive areas; when that applies, extra site rules can come into play. We flag what we know and follow the city’s direction.
How a job usually runs
Free on-roof inspection with photos, then a written estimate. Large-lot access in Hill Country Village is usually good for material staging, but tree limbs over the roof are part of the plan — we talk through what needs trimming for a safe tear-off before the day of the job.
Replacements go down to the deck. Soft wood is replaced after you see the photos. Synthetic underlayment and ice-and-water shield in valleys are standard on our steep-slope reroofs. Most homes finish in a day. We haul away the old roofing and walk the finished roof with you.
Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities where we pull permits, insured. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM–7 PM.
