Wilson County on US 87
La Vernia is in Wilson County east of San Antonio, along US 87 toward Seguin and Stockdale. It is outside Bexar County but still inside our regular drive radius from San Antonio. Homes, small commercial roofs, and outbuildings take the same spring hail that moves across east Bexar and into Wilson County.
In town, architectural shingles are common. On acreage and shops you see more metal — exposed-fastener panels and some standing seam. We document damage after a storm and handle repair or replacement on both. We inspect the house and outbuildings on the same trip when you want both looked at.
Rattler Roofing is family-owned and based in San Antonio. Mike Bailey named the company after the Rattlers at Reagan High School and St. Mary’s University. About 70% of our work is roofing; about 30% is remodeling. Call or text (210) 418-ROOF, 7 AM to 7 PM.
What we install
Architectural shingles from brands such as GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Malarkey — including Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated options — are the usual residential replacement. Every full replacement includes our 10-year workmanship warranty. See Roof Replacement.
Metal standing seam and ribbed / exposed-fastener panels for homes, barns, and shops: Metal Roofing. Tile when it fits: Tile Roofing. Hot attics: Roof Ventilation.
Storms east of Bexar
Hail and wind that track across east Bexar do not stop at the county line. Bruised shingles, missing tabs, dented metal, and failed flashings are common after spring storms. Stay off the roof. We photograph the damage and can meet your adjuster. You file the claim; we do not waive or rebate deductibles. See Hail Damage Roof Repair, Wind Damage Roof Repair, and Insurance Claims.
From the driveway a La Vernia roof can look mostly fine after a storm. On the roof you see granule loss, creased tabs, and boots that failed quietly until the next rain. We chalk and photograph those details before anyone argues about scope.
Repair vs replace
A few tabs, a boot, a short flashing run, or a run of backed-out screws is often a repair. When the field is worn house-wide or metal is rusted through, we recommend replacement and show you why with photos. Soft decking gets photographed before we change it.
Permits: city vs Wilson County
Inside La Vernia city limits, building permits for roof and construction work go through City Hall’s permitting process. We confirm current application steps and fees with the city for your scope before we start. Outside city limits, many “La Vernia” mailing addresses sit in unincorporated Wilson County with different rules — we check the address first. Texas does not issue a statewide roofing license; the city or county permit for your address is the local credential that matters. We pull what is required.
An approved insurance claim does not skip a required city or county permit.
How a job usually runs
Free on-roof inspection with photos, written estimate, then scheduled work. Most shingle reroofs finish in a day; metal and mixed jobs take the time the details need. We plan the material drop carefully for the east drive so we are not short on site. Debris is hauled away. You walk the finished roof with us. Licensed with the City of San Antonio and other municipalities as required, insured. Hours 7 AM–7 PM.
If you are comparing bids, ask who pulls the La Vernia or Wilson County permit for your exact address and who meets the inspector. Skipping that step is not a savings.
East Wilson County open land can push wind across some roofs harder than a sheltered metro street. Ridge lines and metal ridges get extra attention on our inspections.
Drive time and scheduling
La Vernia is farther than an inside-Loop call. We still schedule free inspections on normal business hours (7 AM–7 PM) and plan material deliveries so a one-day shingle reroof can finish without an unnecessary second trip. If your adjuster needs a meeting on site, we can align that visit with the documentation photos already in your file.
